Bonjour parents and students in Room 1,
Thank you for your emails and heartfelt messages. I deeply appreciate your kindness, thoughtfulness and well wishes. I wanted to let you know that I have been thinking of all of you. I hope that everyone is able to remain healthy and safe and is able to adjust to a "new normal" during this unusual time. I sympathize fully with you and understand how confusing this can be to children. I know that we’ll be able to work through this challenge, as we do through all of them. Our virtue of the month is Growth Mindset; our brains have an amazing ability to adapt and change, grow and make new connections. Please assure your children that I have full confidence that we will get through this together. To my students: Bonjour mes amis! Madame has missed each and every one of you so, so much! I am proud of you and love you all very much! I have missed seeing your smiling faces, hearing all of your stories (from what you did over the weekend, to the lunch you got that day, to the funny stories about your family, friends and pets!) and of course your many loving hugs and kind words. I will include some things in here for your parents to help you along and more will come after the break. Remember though to get some movement time every day. Make M. Trevor proud! Talk to you soon. A big giant class hug to you all! Madame Emily Parents: Listening to and speaking in French is important to continue at home. Some great videos in French can be found here: https://www.tfo.org/fr/mini-tfo https://ici.tou.tv/categorie/pour-les-petits?tri=Popular https://coucou.telequebec.tv/contes http://www.toupieetbinou.com/videos When watching videos in class, we often pause for the students to tell me what French words they heard, as well as talking about new vocabulary and a summary at the end. They can still do this with you. Here are the links to the letters/sounds we were learning this year: Alphabet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS3iQh0K480 Sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_iqkpnWnmQ ***They will not know all of these sounds, as this goes farther than I do in Grade One but it’s still good for them to listen to. Please tell them to hit “k” or the space bar to pause if it’s going too fast. They can also continue to review our sounds of the week and words of the week previously sent home (via emails and Blogger). This site is great for reviewing letters and numbers in French: http://literacycenter.net/play_learn/french-language-games.php For now, math games using dice and cards are perfect for practicing addition and subtraction. Here are a few online games to practice addition and subtraction that we have played in class and students love: https://www.mathplayground.com/math_monster_addition.html https://www.mathplayground.com/math_monster_subtraction.html http://www.pepit.be/exercices/primaire1/mathematique/additcolorier/COLOR01.html http://www.pepit.be/exercices/primaire1/mathematique/soustractcolorier/COLOR04.html http://www.attrape-nombres.com/an/nc_play.php?lang=fr For fun movement breaks that students are familiar with: https://app.gonoodle.com/ https://www.cosmickids.com/ ***If the links do not work, please copy and paste them into your browser. Other items to note:
I hope you are able to make the best of Spring Break and hope you all stay safe and healthy. Take care and best wishes, Madame Emily "Clean hands, clear heads, open hearts." -Mayor Nenshi |
